Well-maintained street lighting and efficient drainage systems in Larkana play a vital role in building safe, modern, and resilient urban environments. Larkana, one of Sindh’s historic cities with a population of more than 544,200, faces major challenges such as flooding, waterlogging, and insufficient streetlights that affect safety and mobility. To overcome these issues, the Larkana Municipal Corporation (LMC) is leading infrastructure initiatives that focus on energy-efficient streetlights, improved drainage, and sustainable solutions. These projects aim to align with Sindh’s Urban Development Strategy and transform Larkana into a well-lit, flood-free, and resilient city.
The mission of LMC is to develop energy-efficient street lighting and flood-resilient drainage systems that support safe mobility, economic growth, and community well-being. Addressing frequent monsoon flooding, especially near the Rice Canal, and ensuring well-lit streets are top priorities. By adopting renewable energy streetlights and smart drainage solutions, the LMC reduces operational costs and environmental impacts, creating a sustainable future for Larkana’s residents.
The Larkana Municipal Corporation, in collaboration with the Sindh Local Government Department and private contractors, has launched major initiatives to improve urban infrastructure in Larkana. These efforts are guided by urban planning studies and GIS mapping, helping to solve problems caused by flat topography and proximity to canals.
The LMC’s objectives focus on making Larkana safer, smarter, and more resilient:
